It’s a Fall and Halloween Blog Hop

Hello, and thanks for hopping over from Di’s blog.  Did you love her project?  This month our blog hop is focusing on Halloween or Fall.

I love dogs and most animals, but I consider myself a cat person.  At one point, we had four fur people living with us.  And as any self-respecting cat parent knows, the fur people run the household!   The smartest of the four was a black and white tuxedo kitty who firmly claimed my daughter as his person.  When I look at the black cats in the Spooky Night designer series paper, I am reminded of Pepper, and how much I miss him.  So naturally, my project had to feature that black kitty prominently!

There are a couple pretty cool features built into this DSP pack.  First, see the tree and moon on the orange field behind my kitty?  There are two sheets included in this pack that repeat this pattern 16 times so all you have to do is cut it in 3 x 3 squares and you have a background all done for you that would be perfect to decorate treat bags for your kids classmates, or your favorite trick-or-treaters!  The other feature, and the one I think is the very coolest, is that the two sheets with the cats on them exactly match the Cat Punch!  The witch’s hat that my kitty is wearing was cut from yet another sheet of the paper pack, then it was accented with the Black Rhinestone Jewels featured in the Spooky Night product suite.  The greeting was stamped in Basic Black and can be found in the Spooky Cat stamp set.  Vintage Crochet Trim was used on the bow above the greeting.

I want to take a minute to fill you in on several promotions that are happening this month.  First, to celebrate World Cardmaking Day, from October 1 – 10, take 15% off Notecards/Envelope packs as well as select stamp sets.  And when you buy a Fast Fuse Adhesive, you get two refills free!

The second promotion, back by popular demand, is the Buy Three, Get One Free sale on select Designer Series Paper Packs.

The third goodie is the Merry Patterns Host Promotion.  When you host a party that reaches $300 or more before tax and shipping, you earn the Merry Patterns Stamp Set for free!  That’s in addition to your regular Hostess benefits.

Finally, for the first time ever, the October and November My Paper Pumpkin kits will be filled with two straight months of perfectly coordinated Christmas cardmaking and gifting projects!  To make sure you get in on this, your October subscription must be entered by 11:50 pm (MT) on Oct 10 and 11:50 pm (MT) on Nov 10 for the November Kit.  When you subscribe, please make sure to select me, Barb Stencel, as your demonstrator.

Phwew!  Lots of news to digest today, eh?  Guess I’d better send you off to see what Ellie has in store for you; I’m thinking you’ll love it!  Thanks for stopping by.  If you find yourself off track, our hoppers are linked below.

2017 Holiday Catalog Launch Blog Hop

Today is an exciting day – the Stampin’ Up! 2017 Holiday Catalog goes live today!  To celebrate, we are featuring projects make with new Holiday goodies.  Perhaps Di sent you this way, but if you’re just joining us, c’mon and hop along!

When I saw the Holiday Catalog for the first time, the product suite that jumped out at me most was Quilted Christmas.  I love the stamp set, I love the colors, but most of all, I love the matching framelits and the Quilt Top Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  I couldn’t wait to play with all these fun products!

My card starts out with a Garden Green card base with an embossed accent strip in Real Red.  I used the Quilt Builder Framelits to die cut a star from the Quilted Christmas  6 x 6 DSP.  It was fun playing with the colors and patterns to re-assemble the image.  Once it was glued back down, I did tone on tone stamping in the corners with the small petal image and Real Red ink.  The sentiment as well as the green stars at the bottom are also from the same stamp set.  I finished the piece off with a bow made from Quilted Christmas 1/4″ ribbon.

Hope everyone reading has gotten a copy of the Catalog; if you are still in need, please let me know and I’ll be happy to get one out to you.

Ellie is up next, and I know you’re going to love the project she has for you!  Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy the rest of the hop.

Wink of Stella Enameled Dragonfly

A few weeks ago, I posted this card and promised to do a video tutorial on how I made the Dragonfly embellishment.  Here’s a close-up:

It’s so darned difficult to photograph anything that sparkles.  Turns out it’s difficult to capture on video as well!  After what seems like hundreds of takes, I finally decided to just pull the trigger and post a video.  I’m a bit of a novice at the video editing program I’m using, and the learning curve is pretty steep – at least for me.  I will keep trying, though, and hopefully those rough edges will smooth out over time!  During this video, I mentioned that I had other footage that better showed the sparkling effects, and I do.  However, trying to splice that in proved too much for my pea brain to make happen, and so it ended up on the cutting room floor.  If I can get the software to cooperate, I will do an updated post and let you know.

Thanks for watching – holler if you have any questions…
